About Maintenance-Free Decks
Maintenance-free decking (also know as synthetic or composite
decking) has the look and feel of real wood, but
resists rotting and splintering. It performs well in all outdoor
weather conditions, so it is more forgiving of everyday wear and
tear and of unusual events that might cause severe damage to a
wood deck. It is virtually impervious to termites and never has
to be treated or stained.
Maintenance-free decking materials are formed by combining plastic and
wood particles together through a heat extrusion process.
The
material is constructed from synthetic materials that are
non-toxic so there is no potential for health hazards.
Recycled
sources of both wood and plastic are commonly used in composite
decking, and most composite decks are made of 50 percent
recycled wood and 50 percent recycled plastic.
With a growing number of happy customers, composite decking is
fast becoming the material of choice for many homeowners and
contractors. Not only does it require less maintenance and
hassle, but over time composite decking can also prove to be a
less expensive option to wood decks. Here we compare the costs
associated with an average deck of 200 square feet over the
course of 10 years.
